CS-SIS Grant Winners

Congratulations to our CS-SIS Grant winners, Marin Dell and Cynthia Bassett.  Both will receive grants to cover the cost of registration at the AALL Annual Meeting in Denver.

Marin (of Florida State University) was selected in the experienced librarian category and Cynthia (of University of Missouri-Columbia) was selected in the newer librarians group.

AALL Grants to attend annual meeting or workshops

Interested in attending the AALL Annual Meeting, July 10-13, 2010 or one of the workshops affiliated with the conference in Denver, CO?  Consider applying for an AALL Grant to cover your registration costs. There are two categories – Experienced Members and Student/New Members. The deadline is April 1, 2010.
Please note that prior recipients may still apply as long as they have not received a grant within the past three years.
AALL Grants
Purpose:
The AALL Grants Program provides financial assistance to experienced law librarians who are actively involved in AALL or its chapters and to newer law librarians or graduate students who hold promise of future involvement in AALL and the law library profession. Funds are provided by AALL, AALL individual members, and vendors.
Grants cover registration costs at either the Annual Meeting or workshops associated with the Annual Meeting. Individuals eligible for the Experienced Member Grant are active members with five or more years of AALL or AALL chapter membership. Individuals eligible for the Student/New Member Grant are active members with less than five years of AALL or AALL chapter membership or student members of AALL or an AALL chapter.
Qualifications:
An applicant must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the award:
*   be a member or student member of AALL or an AALL chapter;
*   not have received a grant in the past three years.; and
*   submit a timely and complete application.
*If circumstances prevent a recipient from using the grant, it reverts to the Committee; however, the recipient remains eligible to apply another year.

Instructions:
Submit one application package with the following items:
*   a complete, legible application form;
*   two letters of recommendation that comment on your potential to contribute to AALL and the field of law librarianship and address your need for the grant; and
*   a current resume is strongly suggested.
Note: Applications and letters of recommendation must be on 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper.

CS-SIS 2009 Grant Recipients

The Computing Services Special Interest Section continues our practice of providing grants to worthy AALL members to attend the Annual Meeting.

The Grants committee, chaired by Monica Sharnum, gave grants to the following four members who we look forward to working with CS-SIS in the years to come.

Library Student and New Librarian grants were given to:

Joe Cera who is enrolled at the University of Washington and is currently Intern/Law Librarianship Student at the University of Washington, Gallagher Law Library

Caroline Young, Reference and Technology Librarian at Rutgers University Law School Library received the grant for new librarians

Two grants were given to librarians who have been active members in our profession for three years or more:

Carmen Melendez, a Reference Librarian at the University of Puerto Rico Law Library, and

Wei Fang, the Digital Services Librarian at Rutgers University Law School Library

Congratulations to all our recipients. We look forward to seeing them at AALL next month!

LexisNexis Research Grants

The AALL Research Committee is accepting applications for research grants from the AALL Research Fund: An Endowment Established by LexisNexis.  A single grant of up to $1,425, or multiple grants totaling $1,425 may be awarded.  The Committee will award one or more grants to library professionals who wish to conduct research that supports the research and scholarly ageda of the profession of law librarianship.  The deadline for applications is Friday, March 27, 2009.

2009 Award Applications

Experienced Librarians (three or more years experience): grant-application-for-experienced-librarians

Library Students and Newer Librarians (less than three years experience): grant-application-for-students

2009 Computing Services SIS Grant Application for Experienced Law Librarians

Purpose: The purpose of the AALL CS-SIS Grants Program is to provide financial assistance to librarians who have a demonstrated commitment to the law library profession, especially those who are directly involved in providing technology support of any kind within law libraries. Funds are provided by the AALL CS-SIS. The CS-SIS Grants Program is a benefit of membership in AALL and was created by the CS-SIS Grants Committee in December, 1999. Grants issued will be used to support attendance at AALL educational activities, including AALL workshops, the annual AALL Conference or relevant AALL Chapter workshops and seminars. Grants will cover registration costs. However, applicants may request consideration for additional financial support to attend educational events. Information justifying specialized needs is required in such cases.

Deadline: May 1, 2009 for AALL Annual Conference or Institutes Awards for other relevant AALL or AALL chapter programs as needed.
