K-1: Vlogging for Law Libraries

Video has long been identified as an effective medium for adult instruction. Until recently, the ability to harness the power of the moving image in libraries involved resources—such as expensive hardware, band width and significant technical know-how—not readily available to most librarians. Current technology has knocked down those barriers! This program will introduce law librarians and IT professionals to the world of vlogs by using the experiences of one law library’s initiative as a case study. This presentation will highlight effective uses for library vlogs, the tools needed to create one and the digital issues that a new vlogger is likely to face. With an emphasis on free and open source software and hosting platforms, the panelist will demonstrate how to create a vlog, edit a video clip and share it with your audience at little or no cost.
